This would be it: Konrad; oder, Das Kind aus der Konservenbüchse, Oetinger (Hamburg, Germany), 1975 translated as Conrad: The Factory-made Boy, illustrated by Frantz Wittkamp, Andersen Press (London, England), 1976, published as Konrad, illustrated by Carol Nicklaus, F.
